Having collectively worked in divorce and family law for over 100 years we’ve come across so many unfortunate misunderstandings that we felt compelled to try and dispel the myths and clear up some of the commonly held misconceptions.
When it comes to divorce everyone seems to have some experience and before you know it a system something akin to Chinese whispers creates firmly held beliefs from long term cohabitees having the same writes as married couples to the old chestnut that your divorce lawyer will be out to fleece you.
The reality is that each divorce or separation has a unique set of circumstances and should not be directly compared to any other. Coupled with incorrect terms that are bandied around, changes to the law and misinformation, the potential for people to be caught out when splitting up by trusting in what they have heard is immense.
