Divorce lawyers get used to hearing all sorts of reasons for divorce. They have included breaking wind too often, not mending the loo door, insisting that the family dog or cat shares the marital bed and (surely the most appalling of all) not douing the ironing.I understand that a Leicestershire man has recently pleaded guilty to having sex with a horse and a donkey, this is referred to in law as "buggery". I don't know what his wife makes of this but could it be grounds for divorce in....

I read in The Times that politicians propose to require all divorcing couples to go to mediation. Madness. Mediation can be good, of course. We often use it at family-lawfirm.co.uk and recommend it in cases where it might help. But it can be "bad" if not well handled and these are some of the reasons:...forcing people to mediate is not a good start to mediation! ...most people divorcing are over 18 you know! They can make up their own minds and don't need a nanny state involved, t....

The Press has recently been asking for "no fault divorce" on the basis that to have it would reduce conflict and upset between people who want to get a divorce. What rubbish! The upset and conflict is there well before people go to lawyers, in my experience and is nothing to do with pieces of paper that have to be completed. Zhang Li, an officer from the registration office in Dadukou district, said the National Day holiday period was popular with people wanting to wed. She said staff members f....

Finances linked to a couple give rise to a whole host of myths. For instance, if a husband is going bankrupt, a wife will often assume that she will still get the house, particularly if there are any children involved. The reality is that the security of the matrimonial home will be threatened and the question will arise as to whether the property should be sold to pay off the creditors. Businessmen may assume that a pension they had before a marriage is safe in the event of a divorce. Howeve....

Welcome to our brand new website and blog. Having collectively worked in divorce and family law for over 100 years we’ve come across so many unfortunate misunderstandings that we felt compelled to try and dispel the myths and clear up some of the commonly held misconceptions. When it comes to divorce everyone seems to have some experience and before you know it a system something akin to Chinese whispers creates firmly held beliefs from long term cohabitees having the same writes as ma....
