Cost of divorce

Myth
  Myth
“If one party has filed for divorce the other party can't. Also would divorce cost £6,500 and go on for 8 years?”
Fact
  Fact
It is correct that normally only one person at a time can ask for a divorce, although the other can answer that request with a “cross-petition” i.e. their own request within the same paperwork. But if there has been considerable delay it can be thrown out and the other person can then start.

The case would be an exceptional one if it lasted anywhere near 8 years. An undefended divorce costs £725 plus court fee and VAT with this firm.
